It whistled down the line. A trail of misty smoke choked the platform. Screaming wind blew the startled leaves up where they twirled and curled their way through the air. My scarf ribboned behind me. A scarlet streak of hope, against the leaden sky. Then he appeared, his face half hidden beneath his bowler hat. He glanced sideways then walked on. And then it was gone, the steam lifted from the ground, like a veil lifted from a bride’s face.

The house at the end of the road
Grasping the battered house in it's gnarled branches, the trees thick, trunk sprouted out of the rotting compost. Abruptly, a figure creeped out of the eery shadows, it's darting body almost completely transparent. Reaching a battered gate, it's floating body passed straight through it. The creature carried on as though the action was completely normal. Never go to the house at the end of the road, for this ghost is a reminder that you will stay here for ever more.

Worthless Eyes
Alone, the queen stood atop
the highest precipice. The towering monstrosity beneath her was the only
unconsumed land left. She looked on, oblivious to the fire engulfing innocent
people as the water they used to protect themselves only made the danger inescapable.
All too aware of her now weightless crown encrusted with worthless jewels; her
thoughts flickered to memories of her grandfathers eyes, filled with the arrogance
of unimaginable power. Queen Alsaril felt her eyes fill with the same ignorance.
The Noise
I hear it; it echoes through the darkness. It is a high, ear-piercing screech. I can feel the insecurity that is held within it. For a single, spine-chilling moment, it mimics a scream.
And then I realise what it is. It is my brother containing with the disastrous drone of his piano practise!

The Plane
I was sitting in my small home in Lockerbie. All was normal - my haggis on the table and the main road running smoothly. No roadworks or any other disruptions. The sky was calm; floss draping across Dumfreis and Galloway. The land was cold and my heating was frozen. My son was coming up from Lyme Regis for the holidays.
I heard the rumble of a plane. I saw the explosion. I saw the flames. I saw the crash. I ran...

Where?
I stand there. Frozen. Solid. The world around me squeezes in, getting tighter every moment. I breathe. The air is thick and clammy. My head starts to fall; down, down, down.
There is light coming in the distance. I see that now I have woken. I breathe a sigh of relief. It is only then I realise. This isn't my cave. I'm lying on the fresh, white sheets of a hospital bed. Who found me? How did I get here?

The House of Darkness
Darkness engulfed the house, as it always did.
The black cat prowled along the road, avoiding the dark house.
The citizens of this town lived in fear that darkness would engulf them too, so everybody avoided it..
Sebastian crept beneath the banister, rushed up the damp stairs and there it was, standing before him. He leapt back in fright. The dark ghost approached him. Everything went dark.
Sebastian awoke and shuddered, for he happened to live in this town.
